Exhibition at Drive By Projects

Drive-By Projects will open it’s 2014 season with Bridge, an exhibition including Allison Bianco’s panoramic print Mantunuck!, photographs from Kevin Thrasher’s Brown’s Island Series, and Lisa Young’s inkjet print series Bridge.

Lisa Young’s series of eight prints feature bridges cut from travel postcards and collaged onto blue backgrounds. Removed from their setting, the floating structures are decontextualized, and so act as metaphors for in-between, liminal spaces.

Mantunuck!, Allison Bianco’s three-part intaglio and screen print, depicts an arching rainbow as it spans a monochromatic depiction of an eroding beachfront village. Stressing horizontality and the passage of time, Bianco’s print is more about a heroic act of bridging than bridges themselves.

The hulking structure of a defunct bridge provides an ominous play structure in Kevin Thrasher’s Brown’s Island photographs. Focusing on the relationship between frolicking swimmers and the obsolete behemoth, Thrasher explores human vulnerability in the shadow of our industrial past.

About Lisa Young

My hybrid studio practice includes installation, book, video, web, and photography. My projects examine the intersection of the pedestrian, the repetitive, and the imperfect with the transcendent, the beautiful, and the perfect. I am interested in the way that the repetitive action of accumulating and organizing can create its own poetics. I grew up in Illinois, completed the Whitney ISP program in 1996, and teach Interdisciplinary Synthesis at the Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, MA.
